I want to do this! What's This?
Household items can provide you with various beauty items that you would pay more for in retail stores. You easily can make your own products that work for your hair, face and body.
Facial Products
Dry skin can benefit from nutrient-rich foods, such as bananas, yogurt and honey. If you have dry facial skin, mix a 1/2 cup of natural yogurt, 1 tablespoon of honey and a quarter of a banana. According to www.fatfreekitchen.com, apply this mixture to your face and neck and let it sit for 10 minutes. This mask should be used once a week or as needed for a more moisturized feel to your face.

You can make your own masks for oily skin as well. One that works well is the yogurt-yeast mask. Mix 1 teaspoon of brewer's yeast with 1 or 2 cups of plain yogurt to create a thin mixture. Apply this mixture to oily areas of skin, concentrating on the t-zone (forehead, nose and chin). Allow it to work for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse. You can use this mask as needed and it won't irritate skin because it is all natural.
Body Care
A body scrub is beneficial to slough off dead skin cells and leave your body feeling soft and smooth. Commercial body scrubs are costly, but you can make one with items you probably have around your house, saving you money and time. Find a container, such as a jelly jar, to put your scrub in. Mix 8 cups of brown sugar, 2 or 3 cups jojoba oil, a few drops of an essential oil of your choice and a touch of honey to keep it all together. Put this mixture in your jar and use it in the shower.
Hair Care
Hair products, the environment and minerals can leave residue on hair strands. Instead of buying an expensive clarifying shampoo, use household items to create your own hair buildup treatment. Healthrecipes.com says to mix ¼ cup vinegar with 1 cup water and rinse hair with the mixture to get rid of any residue or buildup. Shampoo and condition as usual after the rinse treatment. You can use this treatment every other week or as needed to get rid of excess buildup.

Do-it-yourself dye jobs can sometimes leave you with a hue that's too dark. To fix this problem, use household items to fade the color fast. You can wash your hair with a harsh detergent, such as Tide or Dawn. Wash hair once or twice, then rinse with hot water to fade the color fast. Use a deep conditioner afterward so that the harsh detergent doesn't leave your hair dry and damaged.
